Piano Competition and Compozition 2018 – Rules

RULES “PRO PIANO-ROMANIA” International Piano Competition, 22nd Edition, June 11 – 15,  2018

 

The 2018 “PRO PIANO-ROMANIA” International Piano Competition will take place between 11 and 15 of June 2018, and is open to young pianists of any nationality, born after January 1st 1988.

 

I.

The competitors are divided into 4 age groups (sections); each section is divided into categories, according to their year of birth: Section A (Junior 1 and Junior 2), Section B, Section C and Section D (4 hands)

 

SECTION A: Junior 1 and Junior 2  (one stage):

JUNIOR 1 – includes children born in 2012 (A0 category), 2011(A1st category) and 2010 (A 2nd category)

Repertoire for Junior 1 (maximum 5’)

– one study(etude) and  – 2 pieces different styles

 

JUNIOR 2 – includes children born in 2009 (A 3rd category) and 2008 (A 4th category)

Repertoire for Junior 2 (maximum 8’):

-one study, – one pre-classical (baroque) piece and- one piece (or classic, or romantic, or modern)

 

 

SECTION B: 8 age groups (2 stages)

Cat. 1-  Born in 2007 – maximum: 10 ‘ (for stage II)

Cat. 2 – Born in 2006

Cat. 3 – Born in 2005

Cat. 4 – Born in 2004

Cat. 5 – Born in 2003 – maximum: 15 ‘ (for stage II)

Cat 6 – Born in 2002

Cat. 7 – Born in 2001 – maximum: 20 ‘ (for stage II)

Cat. 8 – Born in 2000 and 1999

 

Repertoire for Section B:

1st Stage (eliminatory):

  1. a) a study(etude);
  2. b) a piece of pre-classical (baroque)

 

2nd Stage:

  1. a) a classic piece: sonata (one part only),  Rondo (independently piece), or  Theme with variations
  2. b) a romantic piece or modern piece (universal or Romanian)

 

 

SECTION  C:  young pianists born after 1988 (2 stages)

Repertoire:

1st Stage (eliminatory):

  1. a) Two virtuosity studies (Chopin, Liszt, Schumann, Rachmaninoff, Debussy, Skriabin, Prokofiev)
  2. b) J. S. Bach – Prelude and Fugue or 3 movements (parts) of the Suite or Partites

2nd Stage (semi-finale, eliminatory) – maximum 40’

Recital with pieces different: a classical sonata (Haydn, Mozart or Beethoven), compulsory romantic or modern(universal or roumanian piece).

 

 

SECTION  D: 4 hands ensemble (one stage)

Cat. 1 – Born between 2010 to 2005

Cat. 2 – Born between 2004 to 1999

Cat. 3 – Born between 1998 to 1988

Repertoire:

Any pieces of your own choice, with the following maximum length:

Cat. 1  – 5’            /            Cat 2 – 10’             /           Cat 3 – 15’

NOTE:  You can participate in two different categories: the age of competitor and a superior category, with different repertoires. Repertoire statement in your application form cannot be changed afterwards.

The order of interpretation of the pieces is to free choice of candidates. In case of exceeding the maximum set for stage 2 (or 3) the Jury will stop the evolution of the candidates. The competitors will perform in an alphabetical order within their age group. The competition is public. 5

 

 

II. REGISTRATION(there are 2 possibilitis):

a) with 2 documents: the online Application Form (from Sit-Piano Competition 2017/Piano Competition 2018–Registration (Application Form)and the receiptcertifying the paymentof the participation fee(payable only trough Western Union)

 OR

b)if it’s not possible for you the online Application form, the registration shall include 4 documents:

  • Application form(from the bottom of this page) filled in with  all required data and definitive repertoire
  • Copy of birth certificate/ID/Passport
  • One photo in digital format(high resolution) or in  electronic format (JPEG)
  • the receipt certifying the paymentof the participation fee(payable only trough Western Union)

 

Participation fee: category A – 80 EURO, B – 90 EURO, category C – 100 EURO, category D – 100EURO(50/person), payable only trough Western Union (Money Transfer), to address:  Stela Avesalon, Aleea Padurea Craiului 1, Bloc H3, Scara 1, Ap. 11, Sector 3, Of. Post. 57, Cod 032719, Bucharest, Romania. You can find Western Union addresses in your city par Google -Western Union. After the payment  please send us par e-mail the number of this Western Union Transfer, the participant name and the amount.

The contest fee is non-refundable if the participant does not show up.

Each competitor will receive the official confirmation and invitation (when needed), after your registration.

All travel expenses, accommodation & meals are paid by the participants.

 

III. The application deadline is 26 of May, 2018.

IV. Awards:

* The “Pro Piano – Romania” International Competition Grand Prix

* 5 (five) prizes for each category, including the Prize of Excellence

* Special Awards: Award ”GEORGETA  SANDU”

* Award for an outstanding interpretation of a Romanian piece or of another repertoire piece

* Prizes from sponsors

Awards will be announced after the final Stage (Round) of each section of the “PRO PIANO-ROMANIA” International Competition.

All the participants with no awards, will be given a Diploma of Participation, at their request.

All prizes will be delivered in person at the award ceremony winners: Gala.

 

V. The Jury will include personalities of Romanian and international music world.

The Contest participants will fully respect obey the competition rules and the decisions of the Jury.

The performance of some competitors may be recorded and used after competition, without any pretence of  fee on part of the participants.

About the International Composition Contest,  held every year(the 7th edition – in June 2018).

 

Our goal is  to stimulate the creativity in young musicians. It is well known that the composition process require an in-depth knowledge of harmony, counterpoint and musical analysis, offering a wider creative and artistic perspective. The result will be a complete musician!

The composition section will take place in 2 sub-sections based on age:

  • up to 12 years old (born before 2006)
  • from 13 to 19 years of age (born up to 1999 – 2000)

Obiectives (as mentioned above):

  • To promote and stimulate youth creativity
  • To discover, award and promote the best musical compositions
  • To add valuable musical creations to the national & international piano repertoire

Jury and Awards:

– Jury will be composed of famous personalities of musical life.

– All prizes will be awarded at the Awards of the Interpretation Contest Award (15  of June  2018, 11 hour).

They will be awarded:

  • Prize I, II, III Special Prizes (Jury and Sponsors)
  • important prizes awarded by the George Enescu National Museum
  • A Special Prize offered in the Contest Gala
  • one or more recitals with the awarded works – during the 2018-2019 Musical Season from the George Enescu National Museum,
  • George Enescu music scores and CDs. Awarded prizes are the property of the Cultural Foundation “PRO PIANO-ROMANIA”. Records that have not been awarded prizes can be returned to the authors upon request.
  • Jury decisions are final and can not be challenged. Some of the prize-winners (at the jury’s choice) will be invited to perform their plays in Gala.

The organizers will promote the award-winning works on special TV and radio shows. At the same time, the works have the chance to be interpreted in auditions and recitals organized by the Foundation throughout the year.

 

 

 

Rules of Competition Contest

“PRO PIANO-ROMANIA” / 7th Edition, 2018

 

The contest is aimed at children and young people aged between 5 and 18 (including those in the 12th grade) who study music in the School and Music College or in the Clubs, the Children’s Palace or in the specialty.

The main goal is to stimulate the creativity of young musicians from the earliest age, as well as to encourage the presentation of a finished product, which will be evaluated, appreciated, awarded (if necessary) and subsequently promoted, disseminated by various means.

At the same time, the Creative Contest aims to enrich the Romanian repertoire, especially for pupils in the first two primary and secondary education cycles, the didactic segment appropriate to their level of interpretation.

 

The creative contest (musical composition) are 2 categories:

  1. Up to 12 years old (born before 2006)
  2. From 13 to 19 years of age (born up to 1999 – 2000)

 

The theme (structure of the contest content) – for the 2018 edition, works can be presented both for solo instrument: piano (2 and 4 hands), string instruments, blow instruments, percussion, shapes (lying, variation theme, mini-suite themes, rondo, etc.) as well as works for chamber bands (not for orchestra).

Conditions of participation: A competitor is admitted with one or more papers. The paper presented must be original and unpublished by the date of this contest. Manuscripts (in black characters), xerocopied or edited or not accompanied by demo – CDs of documentary character, containing the registration of the pieces presented in the contest, are admitted.

Registration fee: for one a composition – 50 EURO, and for more Works – 80 EURO, payable only trough Western Union . Enrollment will take place up to(until) June 1, 2018. You must send(par e-mail) copy of Western Union receipt  for the participation fee .

You will need to send documents stating the date of birth, a brief curriculum vitae and a brief presentation of the work

 

Prizes – All prizes will be awarded at the Awards of the Interpretation Contest Award (June 15, 2018).
