RULES “PRO PIANO-ROMANIA” International Piano Competition

25th ANNIVERSARY EDITION – ONLINE, June 19,  2021

The XXVth edition of the International Piano Competition “PRO-PIANO-ROMANIA” will take place this year in the on-line version, with changes compared to previous editions! They refer both to the way of conducting and receiving, as well as to the repertoire, to the timing and judging.

Both the national and international opening for the contest participants will remain unchanged, as well as the structuring of the contest by sections and categories, depending on the year of birth.

I. SECTIONS AND CATEGORIES (by year of birth):

The “PRO-PIANO-ROMANIA” International Competition is open to young pianists of any nationality, born after January 1, 1991, in state or private vocational education, and takes place in 4 sections (depending on the year of birth of the competitors): A (with 4 categories), B (with 8 categories), C and D (4 hands)

II. REPERTORY

For sections A and B, a study and two different style pieces are required, with the timetables announced below ( it will be mandatory to play on the outside (without the score in front). If they have the score in front of them, they will be disqualified)!





For section C and D (4 Hands) only two pieces are needed. For section D you can play on notes (with the score in front)!

SECTION A (one stage) – born between 2014 and 2011

Repertoire: a study and two different pieces in style. Minutes: 8 – 10 minutes

Category A1 – for those born in 2014 (and after) – 5’ – 10’

Category A2 – 2013

Category A3 – 2012 – 8’ – 12’

Category A4 – 2011

SECTION B – 8 categories (one stage) – born in the years 2010 – 2002

Repertory : a study and two pieces in different style

Category B1 – 2010 – maxim minutes: 10 ′ – 20 ′

Category B2 – 2009

Category B3 – 2008

Category B4 – 2007

Category B5 – 2006 – minutes: 15 ‘- 25’

Category B6 – 2005

Category B7 – 2004 – minutes:20’ – 30’

Category B8 – 2003 – 2002

SECTION C – (one stage) born after 1991- 2001– maximum timing (35 ′ – 45 ′)

Repertory: two different pieces in style (one can also be a study)

SECTION D (4 hands) – (one stage) and keep the age configuration of the 3 sections (A, B, C).

Repertory: one or two pieces of your choice – maximum timing 5 – 15 minutes

The repertoire communicated by the application for registration cannot be modified later. The order of interpretation of the pieces is at the free choice of the candidates.

The order of entry in the contest is the alphabetical order for each age category.

III. REGISTRATION

To register you must send (by June 8) the following 3 documents:

1.Registration form (in excel), filled in with all the required information. For section D (4 hands) the names of both partners will be written on a single form (with the respective data). The form is posted on the Site, according to the Regulations.

2.Proof of payment of the participation donation (for section A and D(both competitors) – 50 EURO, for section B – 60 EURO, for section C – 70 EURO), will be paid only by bank transfer,  to the account opened at BCR sector 3, Bucharest, Romania, IBAN Code: RO65RNCB0074029148620010, SWIFT CODE: RNCBROBU, for : Stela Avesalon , BCR Bank, Sector 3, Bucharest, Romania. You  must specify, on the payment order: The Name of the competitor and Contest name  PRO PIANO

3.The link to the video with the filming of the participant’s repertoire, uploaded to your personal (public) You Tube account. Filming must be done with the phone horizontally, positioned right behind the performer and  placed on a stand (so as not to move), and in filming it must to seen the whole body of the performer and the piano.

All pieces from the repertoire will be sent in a single file, or separated, but all must have the 3 mentions:  the competitor’s name and surname , the category (ex. A2, B3, etc.) and the repertoire.

Clearer, how should a competitor proceed? After filming with his phone (or other device), put the movie into your You Tube account (with the public option), and send the resulting link address to us by e-mail, together with the name, category and repertoire registered in movie.

After receiving your documents, we will confirm their receipt of receipt, also by email. If you do not receive our confirmation, please notify us(it means we did not receive your documents).

Very important on Tuesday, June 10:

In the Schedule link – 3rd link of the Piano Competition 2021 page, from the right rectangle, we will display the list of contest competitors, in the order of the sections and categories, where we will also report any comments regarding your documents, or other issues, including movie quality.

IV. AWARDS: 

5 awards in each category: First Prize I, II, III, IV, V, including the First Prize of Excellence; numerous special prizes, such as: for the interpretation of the repertoire or only of a certain piece from the repertoire, for musicality, technical realization, for the best interpretation of a Romanian piece, awards from sponsors or jury members.

There are also Special Prizes:

– the TROPHY (GRAND PRIZE) of the International Competition „PRO PIANO-ROMANIA”, offered by artist Paul Surugiu Fuego through ”ART by FUEGO” – Diploma and 1000 RON

“Georgeta Sandu” Award, offered by pianist Constantin Sandu – Diploma and 500 RON

„PRO PIANO-ROMANIA” Award, offered by Cultural Foudation „PRO PIANO-ROMANIA”- Stela Avesalon – Diploma and 500 RON

Programming in recitals throughout the years 2021 – 2022

– „ GEORGE ENESCU” NATIONAL MUSEUMSpecial Prize consisting of scores, profile books and CDs with music by George Enescu

•and prizes consisting of one or more recitals recorded in the museum space, to be sent online.

The prizes will be announced satuday 19 of June 2021, 11o’clock, on the Contest Web-site: www.propiano.org

The diplomas will be sent online, by e-mail, to each competitor, Saturday June 19

V. THE JURY

The Jury consist of personalities from Romanian and international musical life:

  • Prof. Mihaela Zamfirescu – “George Enescu” National College of Music, Bucharest

  • Prof. Dr. Constantin Sandu – Head of Department at the School of Music and Performing Arts of Porto-Portugal

The jury’s decision are final and irrevocable. From the moment of entering the competition, the candidates accept the present regulation and the aurority of the jury. Competitors will not be able to request a fee for any audio-video recordings.
